Cusco

Full-Day Hike to Humantay Lagoon

An unforgettable Andean landscape awaits today as you set out towards Humantay Lagoon, one of the most spectacular natural attractions near Cusco. The journey begins early, travelling through the mountains towards Soraypampa, the starting point of the hike.

Along the way, pass through Limatambo, located at around 2,100 metres above sea level and once an important route towards Cusco during the Inca Empire. You will also have the chance to see the archaeological remains of Tarawasi, a former resting point for travellers heading towards Chinchaysuyo.

Continue alongside the Apurímac River until reaching Soraypampa, where you will stop at a local restaurant for breakfast. From here, the trek begins, gradually climbing through the impressive Andean scenery towards Humantay Lagoon.

Reaching the lagoon is a rewarding moment: its turquoise waters contrast beautifully with the surrounding mountains and the snow-capped peaks of the Andes. Take your time to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, admire the scenery, and capture photographs before beginning the descent.

Back in Soraypampa, your transport will be waiting to take you towards Cusco. Along the way, stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to your hotel.

Aguas Calientes

Cusco – Aguas Calientes via Kilometer 104

Today marks the beginning of your Inca Trail adventure to Machu Picchu. After an early pickup from your hotel, you will travel to Ollantaytambo train station and board the train towards Machu Picchu. The journey takes you through the spectacular landscapes of the Sacred Valley before reaching Kilometre 104, where you will disembark and begin your trek.

The trail first leads to Wiñay Wayna, an extraordinary Inca archaeological site built into the mountainside above the Urubamba River. Once an important religious and agricultural centre along the Inca Trail, the site is known for its impressive terraces and architectural style, reminiscent of Machu Picchu. Take some time to explore its ancient structures and enjoy the lush vegetation surrounding the ruins, including the colourful orchids that thrive in this area.

After lunch, continue along the Inca Trail through dense vegetation towards Inti Punku, the famous Sun Gate. Reaching this ancient gateway is a truly rewarding moment after the effort of the hike, as it offers your first spectacular views of Machu Picchu.

From Inti Punku, continue into the Machu Picchu area before taking the bus down to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Once there, you can relax and recharge after an unforgettable first day on the Inca Trail.

Cusco

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

The second day brings you to the heart of the experience: Machu Picchu. After departing from Aguas Calientes, meet your expert guide and enter the legendary Inca citadel, built in the 15th century under the rule of Inca Pachacutec.

As you explore the principal areas of the llaqta, discover how the Incas designed this extraordinary city to adapt to its steep mountain setting. Your guided visit will reveal the history, organisation, and significance of Machu Picchu during the Tahuantinsuyo, while the surrounding landscape provides a spectacular backdrop at every turn.

Walk among the ancient terraces, temples, and stone structures with Huayna Picchu rising dramatically behind the citadel. After the visit, descend by bus to Aguas Calientes and enjoy some time before boarding your train back to Ollantaytambo.

Upon arrival, a transfer will take you to your hotel in Cusco, bringing your Inca Trail adventure to an end.

Transfer Cusco Hotel / Cusco Airport

At the specified time, you will be transferred from your hotel to Cusco Airport for your departure.

Your Inca Trail adventure comes to an end after an unforgettable journey through the Andes, from the ancient paths and ruins of Wiñay Wayna to the legendary Sun Gate and the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu. Take with you the memories of one of Peru’s most iconic experiences.
