Your Peruvian adventure begins in Lima, the country’s vibrant capital and the starting point for many journeys through Peru. Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel, where you can settle in and enjoy the rest of the day at your own pace.

Once the heart of the Spanish Viceroyalty in South America, Lima has evolved into a fascinating mix of influences. Its historic churches, colonial buildings, and archaeological heritage stand alongside modern neighbourhoods and beautiful Pacific Ocean views.

With the rest of the day free, take the opportunity to get your first taste of the city. Wander through its streets, explore a local neighbourhood, or enjoy some of Lima’s celebrated seafood while taking in the atmosphere of Peru’s dynamic coastal capital.

History, Art & Pacific Views

Lima’s history unfolds through its streets, grand plazas, colonial mansions, and archaeological collections. Today, explore the city with a guided tour that brings together its colonial past and its modern coastal character.

Begin in the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and walk around the Main Square, surrounded by impressive landmarks that reflect the grandeur of the Spanish colonial era. Among them is the Cathedral of Lima, whose construction began in the 16th century and took more than 80 years to complete.

Continue to Casa Aliaga, one of Lima’s most remarkable colonial mansions. Granted to Jerónimo de Aliaga by Francisco Pizarro in 1535, the house has remained in the same family for generations and offers a fascinating glimpse into the city’s colonial history.

The cultural journey continues at the Larco Museum, located in the traditional district of Pueblo Libre. Housed in a beautifully restored viceroyal mansion, the museum displays an extraordinary collection of pre-Hispanic treasures, including gold and silver objects, ceramics, textiles, and its renowned collection of ancient erotic art.

To finish the day on a more romantic note, head towards Miraflores and the colourful Love Park. Set above the Pacific Ocean, the park is known for its mosaic-covered benches and the iconic sculpture depicting two lovers sharing a kiss. Take in the coastal views and enjoy a different side of Lima before returning to your hotel.

At the scheduled time, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Lima Airport for your flight to Cusco. In just over an hour, the scenery changes from Peru’s Pacific coast to the dramatic landscapes of the Andes, bringing you closer to the heart of the former Inca Empire.

Upon arrival in Cusco, you will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. The rest of the evening is yours to settle in or start getting acquainted with this fascinating Andean city.

What to Do in Cusco?

Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cusco is a destination where history can be discovered simply by walking through its streets. Take a stroll around the Plaza Mayor and visit its magnificent Cathedral, then explore the city’s museums and archaeological remains to discover how Inca and colonial influences have shaped Cusco.

For a deeper introduction to the region’s ancient cultures, we recommend a visit to the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art, where an impressive collection brings Peru’s pre-Inca and Inca heritage to life. By the end of your first exploration, you will already have a glimpse into the history and traditions that make Cusco such a captivating destination.

Pisac & Ollantaytambo Fortress

Today, head into the Sacred Valley to explore two of the region’s most fascinating Inca sites. Begin in Pisac, a picturesque town well known for its lively craft market, where local artisans display colourful textiles, ceramics, jewellery, and other handmade pieces.

Beyond the market, discover the archaeological site of Pisac and its impressive agricultural terraces, built into the mountainside by the Incas. Take in the views across the valley while learning more about the ingenuity behind these remarkable structures.

The journey continues to Ollantaytambo, home to one of the Sacred Valley’s most impressive Inca complexes. Explore the ancient fortress and its monumental stonework, including the remaining towers and defensive walls that once protected this important settlement and welcomed members of the Inca elite.

After a full day discovering the history and landscapes of the Sacred Valley, return to Cusco. A transfer will take you to your hotel, where you will spend the night.

Travel to Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

Today brings you to the highlight of your journey: Machu Picchu, the legendary Inca citadel hidden among the mountains of southern Peru. The adventure begins with a scenic train journey to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo, the gateway to the archaeological site.

From Aguas Calientes, a short bus ride winds its way up the mountainside until Machu Picchu comes into view. Meaning “Old Mountain” in Quechua, this extraordinary sanctuary was built during the Inca era and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Once inside the citadel, take your time to appreciate the impressive stonework, terraces, temples, and surrounding peaks. More than simply an archaeological site, Machu Picchu offers a remarkable glimpse into the knowledge, beliefs, and ingenuity of the Inca civilisation. Enjoy the views and the atmosphere of this extraordinary place before beginning your return journey.

After the visit, take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and board the train towards Cusco. Upon arrival, a transfer will take you to your hotel.

What Can You Visit at Machu Picchu?

Depending on your entrance and circuit, you may have the opportunity to discover additional sites around the citadel. Intipunku, or the Sun Gate, was an important entrance to Machu Picchu and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Another fascinating feature is the Inca Bridge, a remarkable stone structure built along the edge of the mountain and part of the ancient access routes to the citadel.
